#6-Great Gastby and the Panama Hat

Great+Gatsby+coverThe release of the Baz Luhrmann’s “the Great Gatsby” based on the epic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, inspired a season of dapper fashions and the hat of the 1920’s elite was front and center yet again.

The Panama Hat was seen on the corners of Canal Street to the boutiques of Soho. I loved the collaboration between Borsalino and Acne for SS13, according to ACNE “The Panama Borsalino models complemented the look majestically, with their large, very soft brims and gentle curves, adding lightness and dreaminess to the entire collection …”

The popularity of the Panama Hat traces back to F.D.R. after he was photographed wearing one while visiting the Panama Canal. The Panama Hat however, is not from Panama as some may believe, its origins are from Ecuador.
